P409
A student purchased a set of bottle rockets and went to a local cliff to fire them horizontally off the side. The cliff was 50 m high and sat above a field 300 m long. There were three rockets in the set. Each rocket was made of a different material responsible for its initial velocity.
.
Table 1. Mass and initial velocity of each rocket.
.
The rocket engines were cylindrical with a thick coating surrounding the propellant. An opening at one end of the cylinder provided an escape route for the propellant to provide directional thrust. The propellant was a combination of fuel and oxidizer in exact proportions so as to allow oxidation of the fuel at the proper rate.
