Golf as a sport has been extensively studied by physicists. The sport contains many elements of kinetics, including centripetal forces and projectile motion. Golf consists of a golfer swinging a metal club at a ball which rests on the floor, as shown in the following figure:

where D is distance, v is velocity of the head of the golf club upon impact, m is the mass of the golf ball, and M is the mass of the head of the club. During a golf swing, the velocity of the club head is seen to increase linearly, achieve maximal velocity upon impact of the ball, and then decrease linearly until the swing is completed.
