A snowboarder travels down a hill beginning at a height H with an angle of x with the horizontal as depicted in the diagram below. The snowboarder has mass M. She brought a backpack with a mass of M/2 to the top of the hill but left it at the peak as she traveled down the slope.

As the snowboarder travels down the hill, the coefficient of kinetic friction between the snowboard and the snow is large enough such that the forces on the snowboarder are in equilibrium. At the bottom of the hill, there is a stretch of length R of horizontal snow that she travels. After reaching the bottom, she remembers her backpack and climbs back up the hill to retrieve it before snowboarding back down the hill.
